I, Ruddock 1- The meeting was called to ordor by the President, The Secretary was directed to read the corrected section of the Minutes of the m*> f ' I;-*?-11 meeting held at Now Brunswick, N. J. on Dec, 10, 1948. It was moved by Mr. _Cryor, secondod by Mr. Dillon and unanimously voted that tho Minutes as corrected be aooroved. 2. mi V-- tho absence of tho Treasurer, tho Secretary read tho Treasurer's report. It was moved by Mr. Dillon, seconded by Mr. Marshall and unanimously approved that the report as pre sented be accepted and entered in the Minutes of this meeting. * .i j The Secretary's quarterly report was read (copy attached) r.nd in tho discussion which followed several actions were taken, a. With regard to the supply of Primers available to the Secretary for general distribution, the members present woro polled to ascertain whether or not any extra copies could be obtained from the nomber companies. It was revealed that most of the members have deploted their stock of Primers and could not therefore furnish ony additional copies. However, Mr. Scanlan, Philadelphia Asbestos Co., and Mr. Fabel, Southorn .isbestos Co., did agroe to supply some additional copies for the needs here established. b. The romarks concorning the development of protective clothing for firefighting purposes that is being pro moted at the Vtfright-PRtterson ,,.ir Force Base, ^'.ero .Medical Laboratory, prompted a considerable amount of discussion on thut subject. It wns pointed out that asbestos textiles are apparently being completely dis regarded in this offort and preference soems to be dir ected to a construction composed of glass cloth, lami nated with an aluminum or silver foil. It was felt that asbestos textiles should bo given some considera tion in those efforts and the Secretary was instructed to advise the membership regarding the proper parties responsible for this development so thet a fair repre sentation of asbestos toxtilos might be mndo. 4. E. <Cryor'< reported his observations of tho "control problem and how it is being' qTtggked^England3 It.was pointed out that many English manu- * ^ facturors are ahead of those in this country with regard to the protoctivo measures bolng used and on examplo was cited wherein some of the machines such as spinning frames, etc., are com pletely enclosed and ovacuatcd while in operation. It was felt that perhaps the most important factor accounting for this con dition lies in the somewhat more strict legislative control oxertod upon such operations in England. Mr. Marshall suggosted that tho matter might best bo clarified through and by Dr. A. J. Lanzo, Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and Mr. Marshall was'therefore dirocted by the President to confer with Dr. Lanzo regarding tho subject. The Fiber Committee report was given by Mr. Marshall who presented n general review of the Canadian fibor minos strike and statod "that at this date there appears to be no bests for an early settlomont of tho tio-up.
