December 9 19*& Hr. William F. Tent Director o f Hesearch and Development H.S.A. Research Laboratory 337 Craft Avenue Pittsburgh 13, Pennsylvania Dear H i l t X was very pleased to reeelve your l e tte r of December 6, 1944, inform lag me th at you hare ac coptod our in v itatio n to giro the second Donald I . Ctumrtngs Memorial Lecture at the Annual Meeting of our Amoelation In Chicago. Dr. Xehoe, who is Program Chairman, w ill no doubt Inform you shortly of the exact time and date for your presentation. I t has been the consensus o f the Board of Direotors that the person selected to g ir t the lecture should hare the privelage of picking out his own topic. The subject may be technical, such as a presentation o f some orig in al research, but on the other hand, i t may also be one of a philoso phical o r educational character. Dr. Gardner's presentation was, as you know, a technical one, so that perhaps you nay wish to make youre a f a philosophical nhture. I aa sure th at eith er type o f presentation would be in keeping with the breadth of Don's in te re s ts , which, a fte r a l l , i s hat ws are trying to commemorate in h ie honor. Off hand, X should say that 30 to U5 minutes would be a su itab le tin s for the presentation of the le c tu re , but X see no reason why you c a n 't take an hour i f you feel th at you need that much time. As X re c a ll our d ellb sra t ions on th is p a rtic u la r point, I t was f e lt th at the lectu re was su ffic ie n tly important to set aside as much time as the speaker desired. X hope that X hare been able to answer some o f your questions s a tisfa c t o rily . Xf not, do not h esitate to w rits me again. At th is time, X want to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a joyous holiday season. n ^Sincerely yours, ]S 2 4 8 7 5
