Just a quick follow up to our conversation yesterday. As of right now, the Secretary is available (and we're interested) if Secretary Perry decides to invite us to address the NPC meeting on September 25th. (FYI for Kate) Thank you! Kate, It is a pleasure to connect. I would be happy to drop by Interior or meet for coffee somewhere convenient. August is a great month for scheduling, so let me share several days I'm pretty open this month August 10, 14(afternoon), 15, 16, 21-24. If you have a convenient time any of those days, I'm happy to drop by and say hello. Regarding the Arctic study, if there are any portions you or your staff would like more information, I can probably find the folks that worked on that portion or point you to some of the background papers. I've talked with Murray Hitzman at USGS and he is interested in a briefing on the report, so if any of your staff are interested, I can keep you advised of when that is planned. If we end up having one of the study leaders in Reston for that briefing, it would be easy to set up an additional briefing in DC. The NPC is currently working with Secretary Perry's office on a new study request that will hopefully be announced at the NPC annual meeting on September 25. As with many of our topics, there is many times an overlap with Interior. The NPC has historically been a Federal Advisory Committee for the entire Administration which reports to the Secretary of Energy (prior to the creation of DOE the NPC reported to the Interior Secretary). If you have important technical/policy issues we should be aware of for possible study, the NPC can be a conduit to get those ideas in the discussion for study consideration. I'll look forward to meeting and catching up. On Sept 7, I could meet before 11:00am or after 2:00pm. Also, one other scheduling item to pencil in if you are available - the NPC holds a reception in conjunction with our annual meeting. In addition to members of the Cabinet, the NPC extends invitations to other members of the Administration. The annual meeting is Sept 25 at 3:00pm and the reception will follow at 5:00pm. The meeting is public, but the reception is by invitation, but considered a "widely attended event" for government purposes. I'll ask our meeting coordinator to add you to the invitation list.
