On the other hand, I feel that our own position In the matter has been so well sub stantiated that It is not at all as though we were rushing into print without having given due thought to this very matter about which you are calling my attention, I have replied to Dr. Fairhall and In order to ; clarify my position with -hi&JT I am sending you a copy of my letter. If my proposal seems unreasonable In anyway, I should be glad to have you say so with the utmost frankness. If, however, I have taken what may be regarded as a sound position, then I shall feel that I am justified in asking you to go ahead with the publication of the papers. At the present time I am occupied with a teaching schedule which will not permit me to make use of a substitute until some time after the first of June, I can not, therefore, avail myself of Dr. Fairhall*s Invitation, and the moment I am not so situated that 1 can send Mr, Thamann to Boston for we are engaged in work at present which will require his attention, I think you will understand that X do not wish to have any unnecessary delay In publication of these papers, if for no other season than that I have been besieged for quite a while with requests for reprints and Information, and I have delayed the publication of these articles until we have gotten together enough material. from which to draw what appear to me to b unelontrovCrM-al conclusions, X recognise as well as any one that these conclusions depend fundamentally upon the adequacy of the method. However, if there Is anyone who questions seriously whether the materials Whlb!h we have been finding are lead, I am in position to show him visible amounts of a material which he can recognise as lead chromate which we liave Isolated entirely from the excreta of normal subjects, and which we have preserved In order to show the gross amounts Involved as a result Of prolonged observations, I should be very glad If you would let me know promptly what you think of my proposal.
