Dr. Thomas F. Mancuso 5127 Ellsworth Avenue Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15232 Dear Tom:
Thank you for sending us the article from the Wall Street Journal about asbestosis. We had noticed the same article and had cut it out for our files.
We understand that the New York office of Philip Carey Corporation is now quite upset about the article in the New Yorker Magazine of October 12 and the article in the Wall Street Journal.
As you know, Philip Carey is now owned by Glen Alden Corporation, whose principal office is in New York.
The four or five tuberculosis claims against the Huber Manufacturing Company have never been decided by the Administrator following their allow ance by the Deputy Administrator. All of the medical reports that you suggested and we obtained were made a part of the file, and the matter was referred back to the Medical Department for further review and opinion.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to obtain the account of MidContinent Manufacturing Company, the holding company of a number of subsidiaries, including Huber Manufacturing Company. Mr. Ted Mitchell, the local attorney in Marion, has now retained Mr. C. Russell Thompson, an attorney in Columbus, to help him with this file, and I am sure we can be of some help to Mr. Thompson.
The claims should be scheduled for hearing sometime in the next month, and I will be glad to keep you further informed as to their progress.
