We are unable to account for th^contamination

We had no

the TEL on tomself prior to August 6th. We have had but one
accident, which occured on August 20th. On this date a reaction
got out of control and sprayed considerabl^sojUxtion about the
hood and on the nearby floor. We,, Mrand myself,
left the lab, put on overalls, heavy rubbe^gx^es and shoes,
and gas-masks. We cleaned the area with bromine solution and
also with HTH solution.
The only time we handle the TEL is when we pour two cans into the solvent in the flask. As the reaction proceeds the lead is precipitated out as diethyl lead dichloride, a heavy white solid. At the conclusion of the reaction all the TEL is converted into this compound. This solid is filtered off and stored outside in tin cans. It may be that a small amount of this dry powder contaminated the sample of which you speak. We are exposed to the arsenic compound a great deal more in the subsequent steps of the process.
In the next few days we will obtain urine samples and send them to you for your analysis. We shall make every endeavor to see that no contamination occurs. We expect to be finished with the production of the arsenical in about
