RECOMMENDATIONS COMPLETED SINCE LAST MEETING; (231) Entrance of Resin Plant Problem investigated by G. Lofland, B. Tull, E. O'Neill and W. Reybold. All lift trucks will use back door which has been equipped with an electric door opener. Two air bell alarms similar to those used at service stations have been installed. The warning hose was placed at 2 different positions in driveway which trips the alarm either entering or leaving the plant. General Remarks Completed a. Installed a shoe rack for Filament Winding. b. Discussed need for improvement in janitorial service in Filament Winding area. c. Discussed locking compressor room door in Commercial Products with Guards. 'd. Safety bars on telescopic scaffold have been replaced. e. Following is the procedure to be followed In case of fire on third shift; If a fire has reached such a proportion that the fire ex tinguishers, fire hose and the automatic sprinkler- system cannot control it, call Mill Creek Fire Co. - 738-3131 and then get in touch with the plant guard, who will in turn call Plant Fire Chief - WY 4-4545 - A. Terranova, Assistant Fire Chief - WY 4-4288 - C. Hobson. f. The following suggestions have been completed to reduce hazards of exits along the driveway; 1. Aisleway and doorway, Bldg. #36 blocked. 2. CO2 Extinguishers at R. & D. not sealed. .3 Freon and nitrogen bottles at R. Sc D. not chained. 4. Two people without glasses - Commercial Products. Main breaker in Commercial Products blocked by boxes. W Fire Hose in Commercial Products blocked by boxes. .7 Two employees without gLasses - R. & D. 9. NEW RECOMMENDATIONS AND OTHER COMMITTEE REMARKS: General Remarks: cM)00717 1. C. Ehrhart, Safety-Consultant, Inspected the plant and reviewed our accidents on May 14 as outlined in his report of May 17, 1968. Ii -4- June 13, 1968' 2. Betty Tull sent letter of May 20 to Union Committee restating existing practices and report of recent asbestos dust survey in the Asbestos areas. 3. A film depicting the true story of an on-the-job accident which needlessly caused a workman to lose his sight was shown to all Wilmington and Commercial Products employees. 4. Reprint taken from Time magazine "Dangers of Carbon Tet rachloride" was published and posted on all bulletin boards. 5. Received letter dated June 6, 1968 from our insurance com pany, Employers Insurance of Wausau, congratulating us on our consistent safety performance and we will receive another award. 6. Review of first aid practices have been started with second shift Foreman. 7. Request W. Reybold review sanding of large tanks with E. Bryden. 8. Request rear view mirrors be installed on fork lift trucks. 9. Request made to level bank near R. & D. which obstructs view when leaving gate. 10. Mr. Fred Hoppes, Lehigh Safety Shoe representative, reviewed the safety shoe program at Haveg and a comparison to local industry. * Attached to minutes is a copy of the initial announcement of Haveg*s safety shoe program. 10.
