Industrial Hygienist, Medical Division, made an industrial hygiene inspection of your chemical plant. Dr. Steffey was. accompanied by J. R. Drumwright, M.D., Assistant Medical Director. Attached for your information is a copy of Dr. Steffey's report to me covering that inspection. Dr. Steffey's findings and *_ recommendations are self-explanatory. b' It is noted that Dr. Stef fey found the Aberdeen Chemical Plant to be in very good shape and you and your plant personnel are to be commended for the progress which is being made to provide a safe and healthful work place. Steffey June 20, 1978 * * ANNUAL MEDICAL/INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE INSPECTION - ABERDEEN CHEMICAL PLANT During June 12-14, 1978, a trip was made to the Aberdeen Chemical Plant for the purpose of physically checking the various operations from the standpoint of OSHA standards which cover General Environmental Control Sanitation, and general use of toxic and hazardous materials. The following is a partial list of improvements which have been made or which are in the process of being finished: 1. A new centralized control room has been constructed. .2 A new dry blend control room with restroom facilities is being finished. 3. A new dry blend system has been installed on Line III. 4. A new building ventilation-cleaning system has been Installed. 5.. Four new reactors have been located in the area of the old V-12 reactor building. 6 Great improvements have been made in the VCM unloading area. This includes a new unloading rack system. .7. A new PVC manual bagger system is being installed. 8 Progressive improvements are being made In the color weigh room. This includes the room and vent system being tied into the new building ventilation-cleaning system. 9. The phthalic anhydride unloading has been completely re-engineered to unload from tank cars. 10 Great Improvements are being made in the provision of offices and training rooms for the Safety Division. 11 A new fire training area has been completed and is in use. 12 A new VCM incinerator is being completed. 13 The laboratories have been increased in size. 14 The shops and storeroom supply have been increased in size.
