Burgum to discuss the Department's budget and the importance of a developing a strong relationship between the Appropriations Committee and DOI. Chairman Simpson wants to be an advocate for the agency and the tens of billions of dollars in discretionary funding it receives annually. Having a relationship between the Secretary and the Chairman is critical to the Department and Committee's success. We first reached out to schedule this meeting on January 28th. While I understand the Secretary has had a busy schedule, we are disheartened we must push this meeting once again and DOI has not made this meeting a priority among other Congressional meetings the Secretary has taken.
