SOURCE SPECIFICATIONS GRIT FINENESS Phillip Carey - 7RF-9 Floats (May be obtained from other sources when approved by the General Lab) Should be free from gritty particles. Test for grit is made by decantation with water, using a 25 gram sample and an 800 or a lOOOc.c. beaker. Not less than 750 c. c. of water shall be used for the first washing, so that any grit present will settle freely and not be held in suspension. 0.1% fine grit permitted. U. S. REMARKS Tests on each carload of asbestos floats shall be compared with tests of original shipment from same supplier, which was found satisfactory. If any of the tests indicate doubt as to its suit* ability for use in Joint finisher, it shall be tested in a laboratory batch. If this test shows the material to be unsatisfactory, the shipment shall be rejected. HANDLING PRE CAUTIONS: A dust mask should be worn when handling this raw material.
