August. 1945 Page 2 Cooperative Arrangement with National Safety Council A working agreement for closer ond more p ractical collaboration between the tional Safety Council and the In d u strial Hygiene Foundation was developed a t a eting in Chicago recently. The meeting was arranged by Dr. T. Lyle Hazlett whom . Ned H. Dearborn, Safety Council President, has appointed to serve as lia iso n beeen the two organizations. Dr. H a zle tt, Medical Director of Westinghouse E le c tr ic rporation, i s a member o f the Council's Executive Committee and the Foundation's le a l Committee. The agreement provides for the exchange of publications and information tveen the two organizations, for mutual assistance on research and for the referral inquiries and requests for services on industrial health and safety to the organi- tions most d ire ctly concerned. - Besides Dr. H azlett, those present at the meeting included Walter S . Paine the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company, an o f f ic i a l of both the Council and the elation, John M. Roche, J . C. Stennett and F. J . Van Atta of the Safety Council f f, and John F . McMahon, In d u strial Hygiene Foundation. . I t i s expected that wider areas of cooperation w ill develop and that active lnboration w ill not only benefit both organizations but industry, labor and the Wdc generally. Engineering Conference Planned ' 's. I t is ten tatively planned to hold a one-day Engineering Conference on in trial hygiene on November 15. the day prior to the opening' of the Foundation's '1 meeting. This conference would be small, the roundtable type, with attendance ted to trained engineers from Member companies. In the reconversion rush, engin S is of prime importance in maintaining s healthful plant, esp ecially in planning Processes, new plants or plant additions. ^ ' IHF engineering integrates industrial hygiene into the production process. Meanwhile, a number of Members have re*ted aid in controlling dust from portable masonry saws. To meet these requests C.L. Hemeon, Foundation ven tilation engineer, has designed a portable exhaust *Pture the dust. The p r a c tic a lity of the design has been demonstrated in tests Institute.
