AROCLORS IN ALUMINUM PAINTS
Goodyear's "Tech-Book'*Fadts PLS-33" pushes Aroclor compounds as plasticizers for their Pliolite paint resins. In this particular instance it is for aluminum pigmented paint. The use of Aroclor (instead of chlorinated paraffin) and Pliolite
assures the formulator, and user, of excellent chemical resistance, lack of oxidation of the`:aluminum pigment, and adhesion to any substrate.
Pliolite resins are used as a vehicle in ready mixed aluminum paints, having low-moisture permeability, are quick-drying and excellent durability against UV light degradation. Goodyear's attached suggested formulations recommend the use of Aroclor resins in a number of different aluminum paint applications. The Aroclors are recommended over chlorinated paraffins and ester type plasticisers because they will not -.-oxidize aluminum or other metallic pigments, nor will they
detract from the chemical resistance of the film. Aroclor 5460 is recommended for the quick-drying films, while Aroclor 1254 and 1242 are recommended for increased flexibility.
While Aroclor compounds are recommended for this difficult Job where chemical resistance and lack of pigment attack is critical, the use of Aroclor compounds in all of your custo
mer's Pliolite based films will offer him:
.
1. Simplified formulation
2. Reduced inventory costs (one product instead of two}
`
3. Reduced ordering costs
