We would be happy to meet you and your colleagues at your earliest convenience for a first exchange on how to deliver what has been set out by the Farm to Fork Strategy and the European Green Deal. In particular we would want to ensure a good common understanding of the current policy shortcomings and touch the areas of policy improvements we are working on, including i) positive listing of substances, ii) phasing out hazardous substances, iii) tackling NIAS, and iv) producer obligation, communication in the supply chain, enforcement and consumer right to know. Please let us know when you would be available. Best regards, On 2/06/2020 13:42, @ec.europa.eu wrote: Dear , I hope you are doing well. I talked to the Cabinets of Commissioners Sinkevicius and Breton and we organised the meeting on Wednesday on the Chemicals Strategy. I hope we can then meet again in the future to discuss specifically FCM. The current situation and the potential recovery strategies suggest that FCM issues do deserve even more attention considering their role in protecting (and impacting) our health and in contributing to overly long and complex supply chains. We look forward to be soon reading the Farm to Fork strategy and be discussing with you. Kind regards, On 7/05/2020 08:18, @ec.europa.eu wrote: Dear , Thank you very much for your message and understanding. We will reschedule the meeting as soon as things calm down on th COVID-19 front. The Farm to Fork Strategy will already be an opportunity to set our agenda for the short, medium and long term. I hope you will find its content ambitious and promising. Regarding FCM, we fully agree on the need to review and revise the legislative framework. Colleagues are working hard to that end and we will strive to have concrete elements as soon as they are ready. While I understand your views on the urgency to act, it will also be important that we have a thourough analysis not only of the situation today but also of the options for the future. As you know, this is an area where innovation happens frequently and our EU framework must be futureproof to ensure safety for all consumers. Looking forward to our discussion. We look forward to a new meeting date as soon as the situation allows. Meanwhile we call on you to ensure the preparations for the reform of the FCM policy framework are not delayed any further and that the reform can be delivered latest in 2021. We understand that the Commission will soon revise its work plan 2020 in view of immediate needs to respond to the health crisis and that this could have impacts on the the Farm to Fork and Chemicals strategies. But this must not lead to delays in urgent policy reforms to deliver overdue improvements in protecting human health from chemical pollution. On the contrary, work should be accelerated. There is growing evidence that pollution can have negative effects on the immune system of people and wildlife and make us more vulnerable towards pandemics. FCMs are a major source of pollution, including for immune disrupting substances, like PFAS or phthalates, which are banned already from other materials.
