The samples you are submitting will be evaluated as soon as they arrive and the results communicated to you. Your letter states that you are "continuing to investigate the possibility" of solvent wetting the asbestos to eliminate dust. We hoped that the operation was beyond the "possibility" stage by now and the only question remaining was "how soon." DAP is presently pioneering in the handling of wet asbestos without raising dust. This is a common position for DAP as we are the leader in our industry. The other manufacturers will follow our lead as they have before. Governmental regulations expressed through OSHA are very strict and severe. Our company feels a tremendous urgency that I wish to convey to you on this matter. If solvent wetted asbestos were available today, we would switch all of our purchases at once. We have as many as six (6) sites in one plant where asbestos is used, and a total of seven (7) plants with about 30 sites. The purchase of handling equipment to de-compact at each site is prohibitively expensive. Other representatives of our industry will also request any materials we adopt as meeting regulations. We thank you for your interest and cooperation in helping us solve our mutual problem with government regulation.
