Unitized Load Sub-Committee This sub-committee met lest cn July 12th tc review the eoinlons of the member companies in applying the recommenced unit load tc pertieulsr cries. The re view of this type of packaging indicated the need of' changes in the recowmenoation. Tha variety of units was also spparant with a rangs of costs to build such units. This is brought about by tha size of each bag, whether the fibres are loose or densely packed, and the rumoer cf tons in aacn unit. The 1967''results ara significantly higher then the 1966 reaulta. 1.1 dr. Hull - lab. technician and former C.J.W.emoloyee, was retired on June 30. In view of 1967 salary increases ( eoorcved by O.A.n.A. Directors on may 28), an attemot will be made to 9et the work done with.four technicians instead cf the former five.' 1.2 Two of the staff of the Venezuela Department of mines are spending 10 days in the Sherbrooke Laboratory learning about asbestos fibre testing. They wull not sea any test results of member company's fibres. 2. fibre Inspector At this Chairman's request the fibre Inspector has developed a method of random Q.S. testing of oroduetlon rather than shipments. Testing of shipments ooes not appeer too practical. This is in line with the "Suggested Controls for P.V. Classification" submitted to the Q.A.m.A. Directors in Barbados, end mentioned in Quebec on Hay 29th of shipment sampling for Q.S. The method can be adapted to any classi fication that might be adopted in future. Winer that progress is as followsi- 4.0 Mathoda^to measure length and diameter. The method of dlsoersing fibres into solution,photo graphing these disoersad fibres directly on to a nega tive, enlarging and pnotograohing la now in use. hr. Winer feels tnat this phase could be done in 15 or 20 minutes. At the moment enlargements of Casslar fibres are being photographed, their length is being measured by tne Zeiss Particle Size Analyser, their diameter is being measured by the Watson Image Shearing and the results will be compared with tests by Casslar such as Sutar-Webb, etc. 4.1 measure Texture Very little to report, any tests carried out have been negative. 4.2 measure "Openness" Tha small nitrogen absorption unit is now operative. This unit T-eesures total surface area, fibres, ano other materials, ere now being tested on the small meer..ne to correlate it with the larger unit.
