CODAN I.V.STAR The safe standard in many application areas Like all CODAN filter types, the model I.V.STAR (colour code: transparent white) is available in three different sizes, the designation of which states the available filter surface (1.6, 4.5 or 10 cm2). The selection of the filter is based on the infusion volumes to be administered during therapy. The pore size of the CODAN I.V.STAR is 0.2 m for all filter surfaces, making this filter the standard model for the most common applications in infusion therapy. The specific filter membrane reliably and safely protects against particles (e.g. rubber abrasion, glass splinters or flocculation) as well as against microbacterial contamination through skin or air contact. Sorption phenomena are avoided to a great extent by the selection of the materials used. An additional benefit for patient safety is the separation of air that has unintentionally entered the infusion system. CODAN I.V.STAR F Lipid filtration without risk The filters of the I.V.STAR F series have been specifically developed for the administration of lipids (colour code: transparent blue). They are primarily used for the retention of fungi, spores, particles and air. The pore size is 1.2 m; the materials used have been selected as to minimise sorption phenomena to a great extent - same as for standard filters with a 0.2 m pore width. A further advantage of the I.V.STAR F filters: despite the relatively low pore size, high flow rates are guaranteed at all times even for the lipid filters. The I.V.STAR F filters are also available with a filter surface of 1.6, 4.5 and 10 cm2, depending on their application and the infusion volume. CODAN I.V.STARPLUS The specific filter from CODAN In some areas of application, especially for permanent vascular access, endotoxin retention filters are increasingly used as part of the infusion concept. This particular filter type under the designation of I.V.STARPLUS (colour code: transparent green) is also available from CODAN - for added safety and reliability! As in the standard filters, the pore size is 0.2 m. Endotoxin retention is achieved by the positive charging of the filter membrane. Thus, the toxic macromolecules originating from gram-negative bacteria can also be reliably retained. I.V.STARPLUS filters from CODAN are available in the sizes 1.6 and 10 cm2. Typically CODAN Perfect down to the smallest detail As the proverb says, the devil is in the detail. In everyday hospital life, this can have serious consequences - which is why CODAN places particular emphasis on perfection and well thought-out solutions where nothing is left to chance. This principle naturally also applies to the CODAN I.V.STAR filters. All filters can be operated with all common infusion pumps. They work equally reliable with gravity and parallel infusions, in which both processes are combined. The use of original CODAN accessories (e.g. Luer-Lock components with CODAN Check Valve) ensures maximum safety for patients and guarantees quick work for medical personnel - a noticeable relief for both sides! Anything is possible! CODAN I.V.STAR Filter systems for specific requirements Often, certain medications such as cytostatics present special demands to the transmission systems. For such specific applications (e.g. where there is a risk of plasticiser release or of migration problems of effective agents), CODAN offers specific transmission devices generally using inert materials and PVC with the plasticiser TOTM. The I.V.STAR filters are available in such configurations. It is, of course, part of the accustomed CODAN service that we work with you on identifying potential difficulties in complex infusion therapies, in order to offer you tailor-made filtration systems. CODAN I.V.STAR Filter systems Practical, safe and compact CODAN offers pre-assembled, ready-to-use infusion filter systems for virtually every case of application. The great advantage: compared to the use of single components, these systems minimise the contamination risk to a considerable extent. Even complex infusion systems (e.g. using 3-way stopcocks, Multiflow banks or couplings of gravity and pumpcontrolled infusions) can be implemented quickly, simply and particularly cost-effective with the I.V.STAR systems.
