' It is therefore proper that you should be aware of what is being done to eliminate this raw material from our Joint system product line. , After considerable work, what appears to be a suitable replacement for asbestos has now been found. However, it will take some time to remove all the problems associated with any * new raw material. Our present plans call for a replacement of asbestos from Ready-Mix which would eliminate asbestos from approximately 50$ of our production - thereafter the bagged products will be changed. (In case of Acme the reverse approach will probably be taken.) . . To this end it is hoped to manufacture one trial batch of Ready-Mix at Marietta and one batch of bagged Joint compound at Acme before the end of this year. If this proves successfulit is further hoped that some asbestos--free Joint compound- (both Ready-Mix and bagged goods) will be available, on a very ' ' limited basis, within the first half of next EDO/ct ' ` E.
