Sheckler, due to the press o other work, had to resign as acting Chairman c the Committee, A motion was made, seconded, and unanimously passed That Dr. K. Smith be elected Chairman, HEALTH & SAFETY PROGRAM WITH IDCNA After extensive discussion the Committee felt it should review all data and facta available from industry prior to determining what type cl prog: am is practical with IDCNA, Each company is to bring medical data, x-ray results, industrial hygiene survey reports, or any other information, which could be used, to the next meeting for evaluation. 2 EROSION TESTS OF FI3ROU5 GLASS DUCT LINER AND DUCT SYSTEMS ` It was agreed that two separate types of testa were needed, i.e., engin eering and Health. Insofar aa the engineering testa are concerned the following was agreed to: (a) U. L. 181 test shall be used as a basis for air erosion. (b) All materials shall be tested, i. e., each company's duct liner and air duct system(s). (c) Each company is to communicate with F. "Wilson as to the products to be tested. (d) The technical details are to be worked out by: F.- Wilson, Chairman. J. F, Corey W. Gubar * R. Neisel The Health It Safety Committee will evaluate results of the tests carried out by the technical group to determine whether a health haaard exists. With respect to health aspects it was agreed that the following be undertaken: (a) Short term study - to comhat undesirable publicity and give facts to merchandising and sales personnel to use in their responsibilities. This would encompass reaearch sampling cf effluent ii.r from research and commercially.installed duct systems to meet the American Conference c Governmental Industrial Hygienists threshold limit values, (b) Ecng term study - to determine the effect cf intra tracheal injection and inhalation cf glass fibers in animals. (c) Study of post mortem materials available now or in the future. 3 ---One company representative introduced a proposal from the. Industrial--.. Hygiene Foundation to study the effect a inhalation c glass fibers', pulmonary ftmction studies ca glass workers, and skin irritation studies which might result frcm fibrous glass handling. This subject was discussed briefly and will be placed ca the Agenda c the July 20, 1966, meeting. If any company has independent research program proposals which they believe might be sponsored by NIMA, they are encouraged to bring to the July 20, 1966, meeting. It was agreed that the results c the Kettering Institute erosion, tests, should be used to counteract the adverse publicity that has been pro mulgated pertaining to fibrous glass air ducts end duct liners. The Committee agreed that a joint industry government committee be formed for.the purpose c evaluating air .erosion c duct liner and duct systems, INDUSTRIAL. HYGIENE FOUNDATION PROPOSAL. TO-INDEPENDENT COMPANIES The Committee 'agreed that the proposal as outlined in the Industrial Hygiene Foundation letter of April 15, *1966 (since modified) and attached to the previous Minutes, is worthwhile and recommends each indi vidual, company participate. However, this is not an N1MA sponsored p * O gr OTHER BUSINESS * The nest Committee Meeting is scheduled for July 20, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
