My experience is that the Perkin-- ISlmer instrument is able to detect the small amount of lead present in blood, but only if the lamp is new and the instrument is in exceptionally good condition. The method seems to be, because of the sensitivity, unsuitable for routine work. Perkin-Elmer is now advertising new, more sensitive lamps, but I have not beard of anyone working with them. I heard that in your laboratory you are very happy using atomic absorption for the determination of lead in blood. I would be very happy if you could let me know about your experiences, and which model of atomic absorption and lamp you are using for blood analysis. I would also appreciate it if you could send me some reprints dealing with this problem.
