Subject: Asbestos Containing Materials
I am enclosing a copy of a recent communication by G. F. Bush on the subject. Note that this work may have some relevance on our program on brake linings, in the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Research Depart ments.
The Polymer Science Department could work on the elimination of asbestos from molding compounds (e.g., heater housings manufactured at Sheldon Road plant) and from gaskets (purchased). However, we should first make sure that (a) the Company is willing to pay the cost penalty likely to result from the elimination of asbestos, and (b) our vendors' work in this
area is insufficient.
Do you think we should pursue this?
