t it l e TRANSFER THE STEAM DISTILLATION OF 1-BROMO-2,4,6-
TRIETHYLBENZENE FROM T-35 to S-12
PREPARED BY:. J. W. Bowman
PURPOSE OF TEST: To relieve production scheduling conflicts by transferring the steam distillation step of the 1-bromo-2,4,6-triethylbenzene process from T-35 to S-12.
RESULTS OF TEST: Charges 160-173 (18,850 lbs. at standard value) were produced with the steam distillation being done in S-12. The steam distillation
of the carbon tetrachloride from-the l-bromo-2,4,6-triethylbenzene proceeded very smoothly. It was noted .that the material distilled in S-12 appeared to be much cleaner and gave better water-organic phase separations than charges distilled in T-35, An apparent 10% increase in yield was also realized possibly due to better itfater washing and phase separation. 'S-12 is Monel and 3,000 gallons whereas T-35 is iron and 1,500 gallons.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Steam distill all future production of 1-Bromo-2,4,6Triethylbenzene crude in S-12.
