ELECTRONICS DIVISION P.O. BOX 47, JOPLIN, MISSOURI 64801 April 25, 1972 Lead Industries Association, Inc. 292 Madison Avenue York, New York 10017 Attention: Mr. J. L. Kimberly Executive Vice President Dear Jack: You probably know that our Galena, Kansas plant is a defendant in a multi-million dollar suit filed by residents in and around our plant who claim that emissions from the plant (lead, zinc, cadmium, etc.) have ren dered useless large acreages of land and has harmed the health of the resi dents . In any event, we very probably will be wanting to contact some expert witnesses and knowing that you follow this matter very closely through out the country, I was wondering if you knew of any toxicologists or medical doctors in our part of the country who might be used as witnesses. Our attorneys feel that we might be better off to use "local talent" than to try to overpower the jury with experts from England or the eastern part of the country. It is entirely possible that I might be able to stop by and see you or whoever is doing this type of work for you, but since this may be two or three weeks, I thought I would write you and let you start thinking. Best regards. / / Very truly yours, J EAGLE-PICHER INDUSTRIES, INC. Envir ental Standards Dept. DRC:bb D. R. Carter Corporate Director N 823
