Mistron Vapor, manufactured by Cyprus Industrial Minerals Company, has been imitated. This brochure presents comparative data between Mistron Vapor and the competitjve materials in terms o{ pitch adsorption capacity. The system used to obtain this data utilized techniques developed by Dr. L.H. Allen of the Pulp and Paper Besearch Institute of Canada and D.A. Hughes of Diamond Inlernational Corporation of Middletown, Ohio. Suspensions of synthetic pitch were made up and adjusted to be equal in solids to 7000 gallons/ton of fibre and having a pilch count of 75, using ihe PPRIC pitch particle count technique. Increments ol lhe adsorotive minerals were added at the rate of 0.10lo by weight based on the fibre. uo to a total addition level of 0.70lo. Following each incremental addition, a pitch count was taken for each mineral. The most effective range for comparison was in the 4 lb. to 6 lb./ Mistron Vapor 85+ 1.57 17 15-25 o.oo1 9.(}9.5 2,4 1.O <1 .O 7\ton level of usage. The graph showing the relative effecliveness will be found t on the opposite page. As you can see, Mistron Vapor is more effective than any competitive material. In fact, Mistron Vapor is as much as twice as efficient as the Cyclosorb at a 6 lb./ton addition level. Other advantages of Mistron Vapor are ils high brightness, purity and low abrasiveness. Based upon X-ray diffraction lechnioues. asbestos minerals have not been detected in Mistron Vapor; Pfizer MP 1252,VerIal PC and Steelley SelecfA-Sorb. Using the same techniques, asbestos has been detected in Cyclosorb products manufactured from Calilornia talcs. It should be noted that the amounl of pitch adsorbed is almost directly comparable to the organophilic f,surface area. Mistron Vapor has a 16-18m'?/g surface area while the competitive materials have surface areas of only 4.2-12m2/ gm. We would be pleased lo demonstrate the use of these measurement techniques while analyzing your paper and/or pulp mill system. We will assisl your staff in controlling pilch problems in your planl ulilizing Mistron Vapor. We will also be pleased to teach any of your personnel the use of these methods to enable you lo fine{une your Mistron Vapor usage according lo your needs during lhe changing seasons. 100 97 92 65 30 7 1.5 Mineral Analyse3 Both MISTRON VAPOR FORMS AOcTVDhasaoulbllaqocoernfmtsl3tzeNterots.Se4s'5lge1ONiMCOM,,lag4r,o"Sq.nMrAOgCe)l,r,roCOaH1,Qlf-,s3Osror-N, o4nHe- 2ODoe-Ttsractc<9eo18o2d9'6 ITA-LG 00324 '.\i iilr:':i if !'.'ii' Talc magnilied 250,000 times COMPAFATIVE REDUCTION IN PITCH COUNT 9o Removal ot Pitch Particles This electrcn photomicrcgrcPh shows lhe layq structurc ot MISTRON VAPOB. Thc surfaccs of its ultra-fine, platy particles have a strong affinity for many lypes oforganic moleculcs and, convcrscly, a strong hydrophobicity. However, in aqueous systems cxcellent wctting may be achieved by usc of propcr surface active agents. Major uses of MISTRON VAPOR are as a white reinforcing filler and processing aid in elastomcrs and plastics, as a rheological control agent in liquid resins, plastisols, adhesives, and as a scavengcr of unwanted organic matter from water slurries, for example the control of undesirable pitch build-up during paper production CHEMICAL ANALYSIS Percent Mgo sio" 31 62 CaO Al.o, 1 traco K,,O Fe,O, Tio" 1 Loss on Ignition: Co. \ Chemicalty H,O J Combined Pb sb As cd Hg Se4 Parrs Per Million not dotoctod not dotocted not dtectod o.5 O.02 Ba (waler 1 ,5 soluble) MINERAL ANALYSIS Talc (3MgO-4SiO.-H"O) Chlorite (5 MgO-ALO.-3SiO,-4H.O) Dolomire ([CaMgl CO.)
