W. Lehnert FftoMi l. E. Winter AH Purpose Field Trial-Memphis DATE: February 19, 1973 LOCATION: Tigard LOCATION: Acme On February 6 the writer and Mr. W. N. Gettel met Mr. Jack Hopkins in Memphis for the purpose of a field trial on all purpose that contained no asbestos. A total of 50 bags was distributed between two drywall contractors, Elston Wood Drywall and Stewart Cooney Drywall. Some of the material had been used by the applicators that work for Mr. Wood and Mr. Cooney before we arrived. We talked to them and also saw some of the material being applied. Four of the locations where the material was applied were 775 Los Angeles Street, 3010 Falkirk Street, Cottlngham Road and Jasmine Cove. Approximately 50% of the applicators said they could tell no difference between the new material and our present all purpose. The other applicators liked the new material better, they thought it was creamier and smoother than our present formula. It was decided to ship 80 more bags of the material into Memphis and distribute to other applicators to try. If the 80 bags meet with the same excellent acceptance as the first 50, I believe the formula should be made available upon request. We certainly agree to furnish ing the non-asbestos formula to Memphis If 80 bags receive good acceptance. The asbestos safety hazard is becoming so critical it is a major item being considered by the Gypsum Association. There will be no let-up from OSHA restrictions and may result in prohibitive costs unless we eliminate asbestos entirely as a raw material. " We would appreciate knowing how the 80 bags work out.
