Dear Mr. Peters* I have your letter of August 25, and have previously seen Mr. Wagner's letter of August 18 and Dr. Sander's memorandum on the case cf Mr. ' It is difficult to know what to do about a case of this type. If ~ one of U3 were there, ve would, of course, see him, examine him, v- and take any action that seemed to be required. Being unable to do this, it is difficult to know what to advise.. Considering the entire history of the case, together with the time that has elapsed since the tank was cleaned, there seems virtually no possi bility that this man was poisoned a3 the result of lead absorption. Moreover, the symptoms complained of at the present time are not suggestive of lead poisoning. I should think it is fairly plain that this man needs a physical examination and some definite con clusion concerning the nature of his illness. It is possible that he has had this and I should think that his employer could get in touch with his doctor and really find out what in the opinion of the doctor is the matter with this man. I scarcely see how this could produce complications, 3inee 3urely an employer is justified in being interested in his employee, and in finding out what is the matter with him. If I were to make inquiry by letter or by telephone all the way from Cincinnati, it would be assumed that there Is considerable cause for anxiety, whereas if the inquiry were made locally, it would be nothing more than natural. I should not be disposed to deal cautiously in such a matter if I were investigating it in the first instance. However, now that It has gone this long, and especially since there seems to be some con siderable vagueness and uncertainty about the case, it is certainly unwise for me to take too active a part in direct inquiry made to a doctor in California about whom I know nothing at all. I wonder, therefore, if you could not institute some inquiry through the Coast Oil Company whereby I could have a little bit better than a pure guess on the matter.
