The amendment will exempt automotive, industrial, and agricultural refinish paints, exterior wood primers, and certain marine finishes. After either a 30 or .60 day period for comments, it is hoped that the FDA Commissioner will order adoption of the amendment. N38310 2- The NPCA industrial Metals Task Force met with representatives of FDA and HUD to review our test protocol for a planned lead feeding study. After making some changes suggested by the Government representatives, they appeared satisfied that the proposed test should yield data useful in establishing critical levels of lead in paint that may be hazardous to children. EES * Polyphenylene Sulfide Resin - FDA Clearance The FDA.has authorized Phillips Petroleum company's polyphenylene sulfide resin for use in food contact coatings under conditions specified in a new section 121.2621, "Polyphenylene Sulfide Resins". The new section becomes final 11/19/72, providing no objections are received by FDA in the interim, competitive release coatings based on the sulfide resin are "Ryton" and "Debron". industry 14 ("Teflon") and R&D are assessing-what impact the authorization may have _ on our release coating business. CKI Bleotrocoating project i An.agreement has been executed with Battelle Memorial Institute relating to participation in group sponsor- , ship of a one year research project to be conducted at their Columbus Laboratories under the subject of "Development of improved electropaint systems and processes". The agreement and approval of the Patent Board provides for extension beyond the one year project. CEB Litigation: Budinger vs. American Roller vs. Du Pont In a surprise move on 10/25/72 Budinger filed a dis missal of his law suit against American Roller Co. for infringement of Budinger patents on poromeric covered printing rollers. American Roller immediately objected to the dismissal, taking the position that American Roller wants to continue the litigation and challenge the validity of the patents.
