Change in Grade of Blue Asbestos Fibre for Style 83-S Sheet
>
STATEMENT GF AGREEMENT - The adoption of Blue Asbestos Fibre, obtainable from the Asbestos Corporation of America, as the standard grade in the manufacture of Style 83--S sheet packing at Manville has been approved.
The fibre is described in Research Report 457-441, which contains the specifications for the screen analysis, etc. This is the same fibre as used in our Style 84-S sheet from Waukegan*
The reduction in tensile requirements for the 83-S sheet packing from 2,000 to 1,400 pounds per square inch longitudinal, and from 600 to 500 psi trans verse, has also been approved* .
The approved grade is the only suitable fibre known to be available, as the procurement situation on Blue Fibre of suitable characteristics for use in this product is tight*
LOCATIONS AND VOLUME INVOLVED - The Manville Industrial Products Plant.
MANUFACTURING PROBIEMS, EQUIPMENT REQUIRED AND COST - Ho nev manufacturing problems are anticipated*
PROPERTIES OF THE PRODUCT - The tensile strength, absorption, and appear ance of the Style 83-S made this year with the proposed fibre have been vithln the limits observed for the butyl rubber standard product* No , major change in physical properties or appearance is anticipated as ax result of adoption of the new fibre*
NEW RAW MATERIALS INVOLVED - Blue Asbestos Fibre, the Asbestos Corporation of America*
EFFECT ON (BOSS PROFIT - The substitute fibre vill increase the cost of the 83-S sheet approximately 15^, with a resulting decrease in gross profit. This is, however, the only means of maintaining production and it vill prevent the complete loss of gross profit from this item* The Sales Department has advised that it will increase the price accordingly as soon as the opportunity presents itself*
