EWS Jn LETTER No. 353 June 7, 1956 PAII'IT DIVISION APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED The folloving appointments have been announced for the Company' s paint division: Harry E. Eodine becomes manager of the St. Louis Branch paint division, effective July 1. Mr. Bodine succeeds Ellis E. Busse, who has resigned to enter the private banking field. Mr. Eodine joined National Lead in 1931, with head quarters in Texas. He was appointed assistant manager of white lead sales for the St. Louis Branch in 1948 and trade sales manager, paint division, in 1950Gordon F. Frey succeeds Mr. Bodine as trade sales manager of the St. Louis Branch paint division, effective July 1. Mr. Frey, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, served in the armed forces in World War II. In 1946 he joined L. G. Whittemore, Inc., in Boston as a salesman. During the following year he was employed by National Lead as a salesman. Mr. Frey has been trade sales manager of the Boston Branch paint division since 1954. Ben L. diPietra becomes trade sales manager of the Boston Branch paint division. Mr. diPietra was with Kaiser Metals Company, Bristol, Pennsylvania, from 1941 to 1948, then with W. W. Morhard Company until 1953* He was employed by National Lead Company that year as a salesman for the Philadelphia Branch. John J. Mason has been appointed trade sales manager of the paint division of the Cincinnati Branch. Mr. Mason started his career with the Company in 1945 as a clerk in the Chicago Branch. He was appointed supervisor of the bookkeeping department there in 1948. In 1952 he transferred to the sales department of the Branch. GEORGE EDUARDS IS PLANT MANAGER AT CRUM LYNNE George Edwards has been named plant manager of the Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania, nickel refinery. Mr. Edwards, who has a mechanical engineering degree from Brooklyn Poly technic Institute, worked at Oliver United Filters, Inc., before coming to National Lead in 1946. He was employed as plant engineer at the Bradley plant in Brooklyn. In 1947 he became assistant superintendent at Bradley and two years later he was named superintendent of the operation. Mr. Edwards has held that position until the present appointment. COMPANY SUGGESTION SYSTEM OPERATING SUCCESSFULLY The National Lead Company Suggestion System, which awards employees for suggesting changes which result in economies or improvements in the operation of a Company plant or facility, has resulted in savings amounting to $280,963 since the establishment in 1950. Cash awards made since that time total $26,795, the highest single award being $960 last year at the Sayreville, New Jersey, plant of the Titanium Division. These operations represent a total of more than LLOO employees. CARLSON IS SUPERINTENDENT OF BRADLEY PLANT Carl Carlson has been appointed superintendent of the Bradley plant of the Atlantic Branch in Brooklyn. Mr. Carlson started at the Bradley plant in 1929 as a chemist. In 19^-0 he became chief chemist and in 1951 assistant superintendent of the plant.
