f L. Earle Bretz, Jr. Report #8219 Page 2 11/20, 11/21/79 parts generated with a .008-.010 crown. The dynamometer testing indicates that there is no difference between the preburnish effective ness data and that they are equivalent to the regular baseline tests with a maximum .003 crown grind. Also run on the dynamometer was 734-161AX474 (Chevrolet processing) and 3.8-27EX207 (control group). No significant difference--the pre burnish is identical to the baseline testing. The only comment of difference was that there is slightly more wrap-in at the end of the test after the fades with this setup. No effect on preburnish at all. They also ran 734-161X473 and 3029-5A1 (clean asbestos). Overall, it was slightly higher in effectiveness throughout the test. The pre burnish testing indicated 2 ft. lower deceleration rate than the baselines. Next scheduled for tests are the last two materials submitted--(1) was a graphite additive and (2) reduced cure. Of considerable interest to Delco-Moraine is the fact that they ran experimental 12846 which submitted 931-66X12 in 11" x 2" sizes. The data was compared directly to baseline 734-161 and 38-27E. The pre burnish effectiveness was half as much as the baseline formulations (30 ft. down to 15 ft.). Afterburnish data is the same as the regular organic materials except this formulation does not sag during the 60 mph tests. Instead of losing in effectiveness from the preburnish to the afterburnish, we gain slightly (1 ft.). After the fades, the material is equivalent to the organic materials. The overall effectiveness at this point is 1 ft. lower than the preburnish numbers. They are quite impressed with the consistency throughout the running of this lining. Additional samples are here for their additional evaluation. Heard from many people during this visit that Inland is not doing the job with their non-asbestos semi-metallic linings for drum- brakes and our entrance into this field is well received. Note: Data from the above tests is being forwarded to A. D. Indelicato for his review. These will come directly from Bernie Hirsch. Cadillac has been notified of all of the above results. L.
