***
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING AND APPLICATION FOR USE OVER MOST INTERIOR SURFACES READ CAREFULLY
Caution: Use clean water (suitable for drinking) at 60 to 80 Fahrenheit. Be sure mixing equipment is clean. Do not beat air into the mix. Protect work from freezing.
Add 25 lbs. of Bestwall Certex to 19 pints of water and mix until the drypowder is completely wetted. Allow the mix to soak for 20 to 30 minutes. After the mix has soaked, add water as necessary to obtain the desired consistency and remix. For heavy textures use about 2b to 25 pints total water and for lighter textures use about 30 to 32 pints total water per 25 lbs. of dry Certex.
For application over old surfaces, wash off any water soluble coatings, remove old paint with trisodium phosphate or other strong deter gent and rinse with clean water. Roughen glossy surfaces with sandpaper or steel wool and fill cracks with Bestwall Patching Plaster or Spackling Compound. When such surfaces are dry, apply a vinyl primer or equivalent to even suction over the entire area before texturing.
Finish gypsum wallboard surfaces with Bestwall Joint System material. For best results, apply a vinyl primer to the entire area before texturing.

READ CAREFULLY Caution: Add water only. Do not mix any other material or ingredient
with the dry powder (adhesive) in thiB package. Use clean water (suitable for drinking) at 60 to 80 Fahrenheit. Do not beat air into the mix. Protect work from freezing. Mix 18 lbs. of Bestwall Joint System Compound (an adhesive) with 12-g- pints of water. If dry powder or water or both are cold, more water will be required to reach a workable consistency. Mix at about the consistency the material will be used. The wet mixture will Btiffen during the first 5 to 10 minutes then, after 20 to 30 minutes soaking, will lose its Btiffness. Cold water or cold powder or both may double the required soaking time. After the soaking period has elapsed, the material should be remixed until it becomes plastic and creamy. Add more water to obtain a thinner consistency if desired. Apply Bestwall Joint Compound to all flat joints and shear off surplus, leaving no material on the high edges. Allow to dry for about 2 to 12 hours (depending on drying conditions) before taping. This operation will leave a uniform depth of taper for uniform shrinkage of subsequent applications under and over the tapes. The Joint System Compound under the tapes and the first coat over the tapes must be THOROUGHLY DRY before the next coat over the joints. Cover the Jointb a second time with Joint System Compound and shear off the excess, leaving a smooth well feathered joint. Allow the joints to dry thoroughly before proceeding further.

For best results cover the joints a third time with Joint System Compound. As an alternate to this step, apply Joint System Compound to the entire area of the board and joints and shear off tight. This operation, called a skim coat, provides the surfaces with a more uniform texture and suction. ***

Shear off the surplus, leaving a uniform coverage over tapes with edges well feathered. The Bedding Compound under the tapes and the first coat of Topping Compound must be THOROUGHLY DRY before the next coat over the joints.
Cover the joints a second time with Topping Compound and shear off the surplus, leaving a smooth well feathered joint. Allow the Joints to dry thoroughly before proceeding further.

For best results cover the joints a third time with Topping Compound. As an alternate to this step, apply Bedding or Topping Compound to the entire area of board and joints and shear off tight. This operation, called a skim coat, provides the surface with a more uniform texture and suction.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING AND APPLICATION MIXING: Use cool water at about 70 F, adding the spackling compound and mixing to a heavy putty, free of lumps. Generally the larger the hole to be patched, the thicker the putty should be.
Do not mix more than will be used in several hours. SWEDISH PUTTY: Add white lead, varnish, or colore-in-oil to Bestwall Spackling Compound to make Swedish Putty. SURFACE PREPARATION: The area to be patched must be clean and dry and free of loose particles. Grease should be removed with a strong solution of trisodium phosphate and soap or any good prepared wall cleaner. Then rinse the area with clear water. Glossy surfaces should be roughened with steel wool or fine sandpaper. APPLICATION: Bestwall Spackling Compound can be applied with a flexible broad knife, or trowel, or any suitable tool. Small cracks and imper fections can be repaired by one application. Large patches or deep, wide cracks usua.lly require two applications. It is recommended that the first application consist of Bestwall Patching Plaster. Allow this to harden and then follow with the final coat of Spackle. The finished repair may be sanded smooth if necessary.
Patches in repaired surfaces should be primed and sealed bo as to even up the suction before redecorating.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING AND APPLICATION MIXING: Add Bestwall Patching Plaster to cool or cold water (Potable) and stir to a putty, free of lumps. Generally the larger the patch, the thicker the putty should be.
Do not mix more than can be used in 30 minutes. CAUTION: Do not reclaim patching plaster that has begun to harden by adding more water. It will be worthless. SURFACE PREPARATION: The areas to be patched must be clean and dry and free of loose particles. Enlarge small cracks by cutting out old plaster to form an inverted V. Dampen the entire area to be patched with water to promote adhesion between the old plaster and the new. APPLICATION: Small crack6 and imperfections are filled by using a thin putty forcing it into the cracks with a broad knife. Use the broad knife to shear off any excess plaster.
Large holes and imperfections require two coats. Apply the first coat so that it nearly fills the area being patched. Allow it to harden. While the first coat is still wet, apply a second coat. Bring this coat out flush to the finished surface. Shear it off smooth with the tool. When the second cost is hard and dry, sand it to a smooth surface if necessary. Prime and seal the surface to even the suction before painting or papering. This may require priming entire area.

BESTWALL GRABIT INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING AND APPLICATION
READ CAREFULLY FOR: Direct attachment of gypsum wall board to interior masonry walls. May be used on poured concrete, cinder block, or concrete block walls which are reasonably straight and true and free from any surface treatment or decoration.
CAUTION Add water only. Do not mix any other material or ingredients with the adhesive in this package. Use clean water suitable for drinking. Mix in a clean container, free from any previously hardened masonry adhesive or other foreign ingredients.
SURFACE PREPARATION Surfaces should be reasonably straight and true and free of fragments of mortar, splinters from forms, protruding reinforcing rods, etc. Surfaces out of alignment by 1" or more should be leveled by some suitable means.
MIXING Mix 50 lbs. of Grabit with 10 quarts of water. The resultant consistency is such that it may be applied with a caulking gun, yet stiff enough that the bead will not sag or flow. Mix until powder is completely wetted. Allow to soak for 5 minutes, then remix and adjust consistency by addition of small amounts of water. Do not use excessive amounts of woter. Do not mix more than can be used in 2--1/2 hours. Clean out all tools and containers before the 2-1/2 hour setting time of the adhesive has elapsed.
APPLICATION Cn the back side of the board apply a 1" ribbon of Grabit to each edge, keeping the adhesive as close to the edges as possible and two ribbons in the field of the
Page ^D-24
SGP 0003725
Direction ^D-24 board 16" from each edge. The ribbons of adhesive are applied parallel to the paper bound edges of the board. Position the board containing the adhesive either vertically or horizontally. Use masonry nails where necessary, to hold the board in place until the adhesive sets. To allign joints, place a 2 x 4 over the adjoining board edges and tap with a hammer. If the boards are warped, use masonry nails to pull the boards into alignment. Remove all droppings from the face of the boards before the adhesive sets. The Grabit will set hard in 3-4 hours, after which joint taping and finishing operations may be started.

Caution: Add water only. Do not nix any other material or ingredient with the dry powder (adhesive) in thi6 packege. Use clean water (suitable for drinking) at 60 to 80 Fahrenheit. Do not beat air into the mix. Protect work from freezing.
Mix 25 lbs. of Bestwall Joint System Compound (an adhesive) with 17 pints of water. If dry powder or water or both are cola, more water will be required to reach a workable consistency. Mix at about the consistency the material will be used. The wet mixture will stiffen during the first 5 to 10 minutes then, after 20 to 30 minutes soaking, will lose its stiffness. Cold water or cold povder or both may double the required soaking time. After the soaking period has elapsed, the material should be remixed until it becomes plastic and creamy. Add more water to obtain a thinner consistency if desired.
Apply Bestwall Joint System Compound to b11 flat joints and shear off surplus, leaving no material on the high edges. Allow to dry for about 2 to 12 hours (depending on drying conditions) before taping. This operation will leave a uniform depth of taper for uniform shrinkage of subsequent applications under and over the tapes.

When the Joint System Compound has lightened (anytime after surface dry), cover the taped Joint with Joint System Compound. Shear off surplus, leaving a uniform coverage over tapes with edges well feathered. The Joint System Compound under the tapeB and the first coat over the tapes must be THOROUGHLY DRY before the next coat over the JointB.
Cover the Joints a second time with Joint System Compound and shear off the excess, leaving a smooth, well feathered Joint. Allow the joints to dry thoroughly before proceeding further.
***
For best results cover the joints a third time with Joint System Compound. As en alternate to this step apply Joint System Compound to the entire area of board and joints and shear off tight. This operation, called a skim coat, provides the surface with a more uniform texture and Buction.
***
Where a skim coat has been used to finish the wallboard, a one coat paint application may be acceptable. For best results, a prime coat should be used over the entire area before final decoration. (SIGNATURE) STORE IN DRY PLACE PROTECT COMPOUND FROM MOISTURE AT ALL TIMES Page #D-25A

Direction #D-31 (Continued)
For three coat work. Scratch or first coat shall be applied to
cover well and with sufficient pressure and material to form good bond on gypsum lath and masonry. Then it should be scratched to a rough surface.
The brown or second coat shall be applied after the scratch coat
has set firm and hard, brought out to grounds, straightened to a true
surface with rod and darby without application of water and cross rake
or scratch to provide a mechanical key for reception of the finish (third coat). NOTE: Three coat work Bhall always be ueed over metal lath or other
resilient lath. Gypsum sand float finish. Gypsum sand float finish shall be mixed
in proportion of not more than 2 parts of sand by weight to 1 part of unfibered piaster. The plaster shall be scratched in tight over the
basecoat, brought out to an even surface with the trowel, and then floated
to a true surface free from slick spots or other blemishes.
PRECAUTIONS
Before plastering over porous absorptive masonry, wet the surface
to reduce suction and prevent shrinkage cracks. Several hours before plastering over wood lath, the lath should be
wet thoroughly to prevent plaster cracking. Do not retemper. Screen openings in hot weather to prevent dryouts.
Provide adequate heat in cold weather to prevent freezing. When plaster
has set hard and firm, provide ventilation for adequate drying. (SIGNATURE)

Direction #D-37
(AN ADHESIVE) * Long vet life permits large quantities of cement to be mixed at one
time without danger of spoilage within 30 days. This makes it possible to eliminate mixing on the job and also eliminates waste due to spoilage.
* Fast drying allows more operations to be completed in a given period
of time and minimizes delayed shrinkage. * Low shrinkage may, in some cases, reduce the number of coats required. * Superior working qualities make the cement easier to apply, reduce sanding, and reduce waste, since the cement retains its workability as it is used. * Outstanding skim coating properties make this operation easier to per form and more desirable. The uniformly smooth surfaces which result from
skim coating give a better base for the decoration and make acceptable
one coat paint jobs possible. *****

other cement. Use clean water (suitable for drinking) at 60 to 80 Fahrenheit. Do not beat air into the mis. MIXING: Mix 40 lbs. of Bestwall Five Star with 12 to 14 pints of water. Use 20 gallons of water for 500 lbs. of cement, 40 gallons of water for 1000 lbs. of cement, etc. For best results use a drill type mixer or other suitable mixer for small quantities and a ribbon or other suitable mechanical mixer for large quantities. Mix until all of the powder is completely wetted. Allow the cement to soak for at least an hour prior to use and preferably overnight. The mixed cement may be kept for at least a month in a sealed container or by merely keeping a layer of water over the surface. Prior to use, remove the surface water and remix the cement with a potato masher, drill, or other suitable agitator. Adjust to the desired consistency and mix until the cement is smooth and plastic. APPLICATION: Apply the mixed Bestwall Five Star Cement to the joints and embed the tapes, leaving e uniform thickness of material under the tapes. At the same time, cover all nailheads. Re peat the lotter operation with each subsequent application of cement or as many times as needed. When the Bestwall Five Star Cement has thoroughly dried, apply a coat over the tape. If necessary, another coat may be applied. The cement under and over the tape must be thoroughly dry before the next coat is applied. Usually ceiling joints will require one coat more than sidewall joints.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING AND APPLICATION READ CAREFULLY
Caution: Add water only. Do not mix any other material or ingredient with the dry powder (adhesive) in this package. Use clean water (suitable for drinking) at 60 to 80 Fahrenheit. Do not beat air into the mix. Protect work from freezing.
Mix 18 lbs. of Bestwall All Purpose Compound with 12-1/2 pints of water. If dry powder or water or both are cold, more water will be required to reach a workable consistency. Mix at about the consistency the material will be used. The wet mixture will stiffen during the first 5 to 10 minutes then, after 20 to 30 minutes soaking, will lose its stiffness. Cold water or cold powder or both may double the required soaking time. After the soaking period has elapsed, the material should be remixed and more water may be added to obtain a thinner consistency if desired.
Apply Bestwall All Purpose Compound to all flat joints and shear off surplus, leaving no material on the high edges. Allow to dry far about 2 to 12 hours (depending on drying conditions) before taping. This operation will leave a uniform depth of taper for uniform shrinkage of subsequent applications under and over the tapes.

Direct-ion ^D-39 (Continued) Apply Bestwall All Purpose Compound to joints and embed the tapes, leaving
a uniform thickness of material under the tapes. At the same time cover
all nailheads with All Purpose Compound. Repeat the latter operation
with each subsequent application of All Purpose Compound or as many
times as needed. A'hen the All Purpose Compound has whitened (anytime after surface dry), cover
the taped joint with All Purpose Compound. Shear off surplus, leaving a uniform coverage over the tapes with edges well feathered. The All Purpose Compound under the tapes and the first coot over the tapes must be THOROUGHLY DRY before the next coat over the joints. Cover the joints a second time with All Purpose Compound and shear off the excess, leaving a smooth, well feathered joint. Allow the joints to
dry before proceeding further.
Bestwall All Purpose Compound may also be used to texture the surface of the
finished wallboard surfaces. For best results, apply a vinyl primer to
the entire area before texturing. The texture may be applied with a
roller, sponge, brush or other suitable implement depending on the type
of configuration desired. For heavy textures, use about 14 pints of water
and for light textures use about 18 pints of water per 13 lbs. of All Purpose
Compound. Protect woodwork and trim during application and remove

INSTRUCTIONS - Road Carefully For: Application over Bestwall Dene-Cote Gypsum Base.
MIXING 1) Any good mechanical mixer may be used. Add one bag (100 lb.) of
Dens-Cote Smooth Finish to U gallons of water with the mixer turning. When the dry mix is wetted, bring the mix to the desired consistency with additional water, A good working consistency will require approximately U-2 gallons of water per bag (100 lb.) of Dens-Cote Smooth Finish. 2) Mix about 3 minutes or until the material is lump free. Do not overmix. 3) Dens-Cote Smooth Finish normally has a 1 to 1-| hour working time, so do not mix more than can be applied and finished in that length of time. 1) Flush mixing equipment and carrying containers with water after each batch. Material from a previous batch mixed in with a fresh batch will shorten the setting time.
APPLICATION 1) Use 2" wide glass fiber mesh (7 x 11) to reinforce all flat joints
and angles. Use 1" x ln perforated metal beads for corners. Corner beads should be set to regulate plaster thickness at l/8n. Nail or screw comer bead to framing member.
