The consortium is now developing an outreach program to begin explaining to the world what this study is all about and how it will likely impact our understanding of benzene toxicity. The consortium technical committee met today to develop a list of potential organizations for outreach and this list will be delivered to the consortium oversight committee for approval. The technical committee came up with a list of obvious organizations, likely representing the first tier of organizations to be contacted. These include: US EPA, NIOSH, ACGIH, OSHA, NIEHS, NCI, American Cancer Society, Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, Note these are mainly US governmental/regulatory organizations associated with environment and workplace regulations - again obvious first tier contacts. The technical committee thought it would be important to include similar EU and Canadian governmental/regulatory organizations on this first list. Suggestions to date: EU DG environment (possibly Ursula Gundert-Remy), EU DG employment, MRC (UK). Action: seek suggestions from Geert, Gauke, and Geoff that can be proposed to the oversight committee regarding organizations and contact individuals from the EU and Canada. Let's limit the suggestions to government for now, but keep in mind future outreach to NGOs.
