Perdue, Jr. Executive IFice President Ethyl Corporation 100 Park Avenue New York, New York (10017) Dear Bill: I am pleased to return to you, with ray signature, the agreement for the continuation of my relationship to Ethyl Corporation as a consultant. I make no secret of the fact, to myself or others, that my greatest satisfaction in this matter derives from the maintenance of a working relation ship with yourself and, indirectly, with a goodly number of other friends in the Corporation. I shall endeavor, however, quite apart from the pleasure it gives me, to render services worthy of the "hire." In this connection, I should like you to know that I am fully aware, at all times, of the stake which the Corporation has in the Kettering Laboratory and its work. I am doing all I can (and my influence in the matter is not inconsiderable) to make sure that this stake will not be lost sight of in the choice of my successor, and in the selection, thereafter, of certain additional high ranking members of the staff. The process of accommplishing these goals is a bit slow, of necessity, but it is fari'ly sure, and I believe that, aside from the delay, which is unfortunate, Ethyl Corporation will not suffer loss. Since Dr. Grulee, Dean of the Medical College, and Chairman of the Committee of the Faculty that is conducting the search for my successor, keeps me fully advised of their activities^ I shall be able to acquaint you with the progress that is being made if and when you so desire. Meanwhile, the medical affairs of the Corporation are in good hands (with due allowances for the necessity on the part of George Roush to lock anew and without much background, at some of its problems). Both he and you can count on my help, if and when it is needed and sought, in so far as my knowledge and experience will go. I shall be communicating with you shortly on the plans of the University for the dedication of the "new" Laboratory. It appears that this can be fitted into the schedule of the University and its Faculty early in April. My problem in this planning is to make reasonably sure that it comes at a time that will be reasonably convenient for our industrial friends who are the persons to be N14829.01 Mr. W. R. If you have any suggestion to make to me in this regard, especially in relation to conflicting engagements and obligations of yourselves and others, I'd be grateful to have them.
