He further
to upgrade
Otherwise he will extend it across the board directed us not to spend a lot of time attempting the strengths of the product so as to be able to
extend it across the board
Conduct feasibility study to determine whether asbestos fiber used to reinforce Kaylo can be replaced with other types of reinforcing fibers
Conduct a feasibility study to determine whether cotton can be used to reinforce Kaylo -
en, Ladd stated the nine points for product improvement as outlined by
Vyverberg were all desirable and could be used as long term objectives
However in view of the completely sold out position of the Berlin
his belief that properties of Kaylo cannot be improved improved to
plant
and the
any measurable degree urgency of the program directed toward elimination of asbestos from
Kthaeyliotemhse wrheiqcuhested we postpone items 2 3 and 4 of Mr. Vyverberg's lists lists
Vyverberg Vyverberg had requested us to work on in 1967 to a later

Items 2 3 and 4 include improved breakage 1600 F product and water

to limit cur alfiois in 1967 to completing the stres corrosion meeting

i.
carrying out of a feasibility study on cotton and other
Coulation date for the feasibility study will be December 31 1907 Target daten fo fo the various phases of the program will be set after
buzir a pra on when fiber are commercially commercially available and after
ve review with the glass technologist the problems we will encounter in obtaining spamally formulated and fiberized alkaline resistant
glos fice Ins total Kayli Product Development proposed budget for
1907 is 41 239 The cust of the feasibility study is estimated at
25 000 the remainder going to completion of stress corrosion
.
Attached is a copy of the
study
As you will now
pert chart I prepared for the feasibility
our efforts will be directed toward the
evaluaevaltuation ion of ection fibers alkaline resistant and surface glas fibfibers ers and various commer al fibers including rockworl
minerals ceramic metal and organic fibers
coated coated fibrous
To differentiate from the glass fiber reinforcement program carried out four or five years ago we plan with the assistance of Glass Research
to develop on alkaline resistant glass fiber which can be incorporated directly into Kayle batch Also another look will be taken at costing textile waste to make it suitable for use as reinforcement for Keyle
After our initial coreening of the various candidate fibers we will
solen two or three which show the greatest promise of surviving the
Kayit process and providing reinforcement in the finished product
These will be evaluated in sufficient depth to obtain representative
physical and the proportion costs and identification of
problems which could be caused by the switch over in the
process
used The data will be
type of fiber
assembled evaluated and a recommendation will
be made based on the results obtained

If a fiber is found having a very high probability of success of replacing
asbestos in Kaylo we will recommend to Marketing they support the & effort that will be required to scale the fiber up from the
laboratory feasibility study stage to full scale Plant usage in all
Kaylo products
