A proprietary "wet process" breaks down the fiber bundles, removes rocks and other contaminents and provides 98$ liberated, efficient fibrils of uniform quality. RG-144 - A highly-refined grade of "Calidria" Asbestos used as a viscosity control agent in epoxys, vinyl plastisols, asphaltic compounds, polysulfide and butyl rubber sealants, silicone and casein adhesives. Unlike other thixotropes, RG-I44 can be used effectively with amine hardeners in epoxy systems and has an indefinite shelf life. It costs only about 1/4 as much as pyrogenic silica, and is generally used at addition levels of I - I 1/2%. RG-244 - Very highly refined "Calidria" fiber which has been surface-modified for use as a thickening agent and thixotrope in polyester spray-up and hand lay-up resins, in vinyl sealants, in epoxys, and in a variety of adhesives, coatings and mastics. In many systems RG-244 does not contribute color or opacity - a character istic that makes it particularly attractive in polyester gel coats. It offers ease of dispersion with minimum settling and stable rheological properties. RG-244 costs less and is generally used at lower levels than other thixotropes. Packages of RG-144 and RG-244 are sealed with polyethylene overwraps to ensure moisture protection and are readily available at many warehousing points.
