At the conclusion of my talk, I indicated that as the present 2 fiber/cc standard had only been recommended in 1968 and introduced into legislation since 1970, sufficient time had not yet elapsed to validate or invalidate it as a safe level for cancer or mesothelioma although it did present an apparent acceptable safe level for asbestosis allowing for a 1% risk of developing the earliest demonstra ble effects.
