This will relieve the present short supply situation. '____ addition two batches of about 160 lbs each of Epon 828/dicy dispersion will be made and shipped to Houston later this month for use in Adhesive IX manu facture . BY: We have noted your efforts in attempting to make this dispersion and later in attempting to find an outside supplier. Earlier it was mutually felt by Houston and Head Office that in view of the relatively small quantities of dispersion required at presently foreseen Adhesive IX offtakes, some means of obtaining this dispersion ether than by purchase of a Morehouse mill should be used if at all feasible. Considering the difficulties which you have encountered we now believe that it would be desirable for you to have this equipment and agree that you take necessary steps to procure such equipment. Equipment of this type should be generally useful in resin-specialties processing. We assume that you will be able to prepare specification product using dispersion made at Emeryville and we plan to arrange for all future Adhesive IX production at Houston. Should you encounter delay in securing the mill so that additional dispersion would be required from Emeryville kindly inform us so that arrangements can be made through established channels. Cole Gentlemen: We are presently conducting laboratory experiments in an attempt to develop an operating procedure for the manufacture of Epon Adhesive IX in the Product Development Unit. Early attempts to manufacture the Epon 326Dicy dispersion in a Read kneader have met with only limited success, and an excessive kneading time was required to manufacture the dispersion. To date, attempts to obtain an outside supplier have also been unsuccessful. For these reasons ve are considering the purchase of equipment to manufacture the dispersion. On page 16 of the attachment to your memorandum of June 22, 1956 to Shell Chemical Corporation, Manufacturing Department, New York, use of a Morehouse Mill equipped with 60 grit carborundum stones and variable clearance, is discussed. We would appreciate information about this equipment, i.e., the name and address of the manufacturer and the probable cost of a suitable unit. We would also appreciate any information you may have about possible alternate machines which you would consider satisfactory for preparing the Epon 626-Dicy dispersion used in Adhesive IX manufacture. Sprinkle Gentlemen: EPON ADHESIVE IX Thank you for your letter of September 26, 1956. We appreciate the transfer of the manufacture of Epon Adhesive IX to Houston. We have reviewed your product transmittal forms and are in agreement. However, there is one minor correction that should be made in our original process description. The formulation for Adhesive IX is given correctly but, on page 16 under "Process Materials" both titanium dioxide and Acetamine Orange are listed. These materials are not used in the manufacture of Adhesive IX. For your information, you will find attached a table showing typical test data for recent batches of Adhesive IX made here.
