Turco Transpo Cleaner, a severe eye hazard, should have portable eye wash available where cleaner is used. Self-contained breathing apparatus should be located near anhydrous ammonia cylinders at VPS. All gas mask canisters should be attached to masks ready for instant use. Additional exit signs are required in the foremen's office building. RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Asbestos wicking, tape or other asbestos fabricated materials stored on shelves in the storehouse should be in sealed,. properly labeled plastic bags to avoid airborne fibers. 2. Turco Transpo Cleaner is used in many areas of the plant. This cleaner is a severe eye hazard and a portable pressurized eye wash should be part of the employes safety equipment when using this material. , 3. A self-contained breathing apparatus should be located near the anhydrous ammonia cylinders at the VPS. A copy of the current MCA (Manufacturing Chemists Association) Data Sheet is attached. 4. All gas mask canisters on station throughout the plant should be connected to the face masks ready for instant use. 5. Additional exit signs are required inside the foremen's office building to comply with Federal Register OSHA 1910.36. DISCUSSION During the survey of the plant the recommendations submitted by Mr. R. T. Richards from his report dated October 1975 were reviewed with Mr. J. Drummond, Safety Supervisor. All of the recommendations have been completed. WA-TEX 000021 The audiometric booth was surveyed with a General Radio, Model 1933 Precision Sound Level .Meter to insure that the booth conforms to the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Standard S 3.11960/1971 for noise attenuation. A separate data sheet. Table 1, is attached. As can be seen from Table 1, the booth does not meet the ANSI standard of 30 dB at the 12S Ha frequency when the exhaust fan is operated. The fan is and should not normally be used during audio metric testing procedures. - I wish to thank Mr. P. C. Templeton and his staff for their assistance and cooperation during my visit. , J. P.
