Gov. Scott Reappoints One and Appoints Four to State University System Board of Governors
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the reappointment of Patricia Frost and the appointments of Tim Cerio, Ned Lautenbach, Dr. Zach Zachariah and Jay Patel to the State University System Board of Governors.
Patricia Frost, is a retired Dade County public school principal and a former trustee of the Florida International University Board of Trustees. Frost also serves as an advisory board member for the Frost Art Museum at Florida International University, the Frost School of Music at University of Miami, and the Frost Museum of Science in Miami-Dade County. Frost received her bachelor's degree from Colby College and her master's degree from Columbia University. Frost is reappointed for a term beginning October 27, 2017, and ending January 6, 2024.
Tim Cerio, is an attorney practicing at his own law firm in Tallahassee, and was appointed to the Florida Constitution Revision Commission by Governor Rick Scott. In addition, Cerio is of counsel with GrayRobinson law firm and served as General Counsel to Governor Rick Scott from 2015 to 2016. Cerio received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Florida. Cerio succeeds Richard A. Beard III, and is appointed for a term beginning October 27, 2017, and ending January 6, 2024.
Ned Lautenbach, is chairman of the Independent Trustees of the Equity and High-Income Fund of Fidelity Investments. Previously, Lautenbach has served as lead director of the Eaton Corporation Board of Directors, a partner at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, and worked at IMB Corporation for 30 years where he served as Senior Vice President. Lautenbach received his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and his master's from Harvard University. Lautenbach is appointed to fill a vacant seat for a term beginning October 27, 2017, and ending January 6, 2020.
Dr. Zach Zachariah, is a board-certified internal medicine and cardiology physician and serves as the Medical Director of UHealth Cardiology at the University of Miami Health Systems in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Zachariah has previously been appointed by Governor Rick Scott to serve on the

Board of Medicine. Dr. Zachariah received his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College of Poona, India, completed his internship and residency at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center, and his fellowship in cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation. Dr. Zachariah is appointed to fill a vacant seat for a term beginning October 27, 2017, and ending January 6, 2019.
Jay Patel, is the chief executive officer of LHS Companies, a real estate development company operating in the Florida Panhandle. Patel has previously been appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the University of West Florida Board of Trustees. Patel has received three Honorary Doctorates for his work in education, theology and the hospitality industry. Patel succeeds Ned Lautenbach and is appointed for a term beginning October 27, 2017, and ending January 6, 2019.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
