At the 1984 Conference several members intimated that their systems were getting old and they were contemplating change and asked if any member had recently made any advances in this area. This survey, I hope, will be well supported and replies will be sent to me as soon as possible so that a complete presentation can be given at our 1985 Conference. As Programme Chairman this year, I would like your earliest consideration to be given to your own contribution to the Conference. Please let me know of the titles of any presentation you wish to give and approximate time needed. I would also ask you to telex me the titles of any incidents which occur nearer to the Conference time which you would like to present under our popular "True Confessions". It was suggested during the 1984 Conference that instead of having formal presentations part of our conference should be devoted to debate on problem areas or areas for future improvements in safety. I would ask you all to consider this. If I can get volunteers to lead the debates rather than give formal presentations.I should prefer this approach, and would suggest the following topics: Reactor Safety: the future? VCM Safety Levels and the Environment Emissions: can we reach nil? Safety Awareness: How is it generated? Incentive/Award Systems: any role in safety? Peroxides and Safety VCM Fire and Explosion Prevention Any other ideas? I would, of course, like some formal presentations or surveys also. I hope this provokes a positive response, especially with those member companies who have either not attended or not contributed recently. Your support in keeping our Industry in the forefront of safety is essential. Regards.
