We expect EPA to use this document as the basis for a Federal Register notice that no TSCA test rule will be required for phthalates (because the industry is con ducting voluntary toxicity testing). CMA is working closely with the new EPA administrator, Anne Gorsuch, to explain why regulations controlling phthalates should wait until testing is complete, to date Ms. Gorsuch has been receptive to our input. CMA is very concerned that there have been inaccurate statements regarding phthalates in the trade press (Chemical Week, etc.) recently. Apparently, spokesmen from companies not involved with the CMA program have been quoted (Tenneco was specfTcally mentioned).
