They are using a demonstration engine which we loaned them and are quite pleased with the dramatic results which they ob tain by holding the fluid container near the intake manifold of the engine to show that the anti-knock compound quickly eliminates the knocking tendencies of the engine. I should hate very much to make them discontinue this demonstration. To that end, I discussed the matter with Mr. Allen Orth of General Motors Research in Detroit, and delegated Mr. Goltz of our NewYork Division, to discuss the situation with Mr. McElheany in NewYork. Mr. Goltz's memorandum indicates what I consider to be a satisfactory handling of the situation. General Motors are quite ready to do anything we might suggest with regard to this demonstration, and if in your opin ion sufficient potential hazard exists to ask them to cease, it can be done. On the other hand, we feel that they are doing us a lot of good and if the arrangements concluded by Mr. Goltz are satisfactory to you, we will permit them to continue with intermittent checking on our part for the duration of the Fair. Would you be kind enough to advise me your feeling in this matter and at the same time return the original memoranda which are attached hereto* ,
