Dr. A. J. Lanza, Associate Medical Director, Metropolitan Life Ins. Company,
Hew York 10, N. Y.
Dear Doctor Lanza:
Following your telephone call Wednes day morning, I received your letter of August 1 and I assume that you also received a letter from me
which was then mailed-
Because of very pressing business here during that time, I do not feel that I can make the trip to Saranac on or about August 15. If there should remain a reason for a conference there, it is possible that I might make it sometime in September, or I might at least get to New York City for a confer ence there, if that may be desirable.
Like you, X am not clear as to the reasons
for the concern expressed by Dr. Vorvald. However,
from the copy of my letter to him which I sent to you,
you may see that I think that the course to be followed
f
should be decided by those on the ground. Without any knowledge of what is in Dr. Vorwald's mind, I still
believe Gardner's material is publishable a9 it stands
and that nerhnps revision by anyone else might not truly
represent him. On the other hand, if Dr. Vorvald is to carry
on the work, it should be decided whether Dr. Gardner's
efforts may be merged, with full credit to him.
X offer these suggestions out of a coopera tive interest, and I feel that the decisions should be made by you and him and your colleagues without regard to any other consideration of my participation than that.
Incidentally, I wish to offer my congratula tions and best wishes on your new connections which I have seen announced.
Sincerely yours,
KML!V>m.
