Now we must develope techniques to reduce the oil absorption levels to the lower range. We're not sure why we have produced acceptable product but it may tie in to manufacture of carbonates while litharge is running. B. TENNECO We now have a formulation and a sample of resin from Tenneco, and have compared testing procedures. The plant steam boiler has been reset to a higher pressure to permit milling at the tempera ture specified by Tenneco. We are now proceeding to compare Cy astab 523-0 to Tribase XL- oiled once more. NORTH AMERICAN PLASTICS This customer has found a correlation between disper sion problems in their plant and a 325 mesh wet screen run without brushing or surfactant. Accordingly, we are now us ing this test method for all Cyastab 15 to be shipped to North American. D. GEORGIA - PACIFIC / ETHYL We are still awaiting retesting of our last 4 sample submissions and detailed results from the customer. Until we know where we now stand, further development work is point less . E. `PLYMOUTH RUBBER This custonier uses Lectro 60 in electrical tape. They need good heat stability with a polymeric plasticizer, and good release from calender rolls without adversely affecting adhesive adhesion. We cannot evaluate the lubricity characteristics in our laboratory. We have therefore arranged to make up samples of stabilizers that might work, and send them to Plymouth for testing. These are being made in the laboratory this week. F. CYASTAB SLM We are still awaiting evaluation of this stabilizer by Western Electric. V. GENERAL A. Lead - Price has, essentially stayed at 26$ all month with a small amount sold at 28$ by St. Joe. There is now a pull between the low demand due to the seasonable drop in battery production and the labor prob lems causing potential products slow down. St. Joe mines on strike since 3/31. Broken Hill. - Australia mines & smelter on strike Amax - Mines and smelter contract expires 5/31 Asarco - Glover smelter down for 2 months CYW! 1 -000188 ' < ; y* -4 p V. GENERAL ( continued) A. We counsel with Joe Rhodes on all purchases of lead as he is working with tht major lead suppliers for a more effect ive contract for lead purchases . B. PERSONNEL Salary Hourly 12 15 We anticipate hiring one hourly man for vacation relief. C. Dick Howe has inquired as to the plant's capability for inventoring Pactice. Our response will depend on addi tional data we have requested. It appears promising. D. TRIP - VISITORS Barry Coppersmith 4/4 Washington, D. C. 4/12 & 4/13 D.O. L. VPP meeting E.
