Ratcliffe and William H. Croft Jr. were elected to membership on the Board, filling the vacan cies left by the resignations of Harold Rowe, Kendall Marsh and William H. Croft Sr. Mr. Wildner has been Comptroller of the Company since April 19, 1946. He joined the Company as a member of the auditing staff in 1921 and was made Assistant Comp troller in 1938* Mr. Ratcliffe, General Manager of the Baroid Sales Division, started with the Company in 1929. He was made General Manager of National Pigments & Chemical Division (later changed to Baroid Sales Division) in 1939. Mr. Croft has been assistant General Manager of the Magnus Division and, since November 1947, President of the Magnus Metal Corp. He entered Magnus' employ in 1927 and was appointed a vice president and a director of the Corporation in 1936. MERSON AND WILDNER ELECTED TO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE D. A. Merson and H. C. Wildner were elected members of the Executive Committee at the same meeting. They succeed Messrs. Rowe and Croft Sr., resigned. DR. WILLIAMS NOW IN CHARGE AT BROOKLYN RESEARCH LABORATORIES Dr. F. J. Williams, who for several years has been head of the department of special investigations at the Company's Research Laboratories in Brooklyn, was named technical director in charge of the Laboratories Jhnuary 1. Dr. Williams came to the Company from Mellon Institute where he had held a fellowship sponsored by the Baroid Division. fie spent some time with Baroid in St. Louis during the tenure of the fellowship and at its termination in September 1939 joined the Laboratory staff in Brooklyn. Prior to his work at Mellon, Dr. Williams had been an assistant professor at Penn State. NELSON NOW SUPERINTENDENT AT HOYT PLANT McDonald S. Nelson has been appointed superintendent of the Hoyt Plant, Granite City, 111., effective January 1. Prior to his going to the Hoyt Plant as assistant superintendent in October 1946, Mr. Nelson had served as assistant plant manager of the Magnesium Reduction Co., Luckey, Ohio, and assistant superintendent at St. Louis Lead and Oil Works. 0000-NLI-000024876 TITANIUM RESEARCH STAFF CHANGES H. V. Alessandroni has been appointed assistant director of research of the Titanium Division. Mr. Alessandroni has been in charge of the pigment research department for the past three years. He joined Titanium in 1931 following his graduation from Columbia University. Dr. W. K. Nelson has assumed supervision of the pigment research department. He joined the Titanium laboratory staff in 1930 after graduating from Brown University. GRANT APPOINTED ASSISTANT MANAGER OF METAL SALES AT ST. LOUIS William K. Grant was recently named Assistant Manager of the Metal Sales department at St. Louis Branch. Mr. Grant has been with St. Louis Branch since July 8, 1912, and at the time of his recent appointment, was in charge of metal sales for the Kansas City district. MERRILL NAMED TO PACIFIC COAST SALES POST loyd W. Merrill Has been appointed assistant sales manager of the central division of Pacific Coast Branch, effective January 1. Mr. Merrill started with the Company in 1940 as a sales representative in San Francisco. PITTSBURGH BRANCH CONSOLIDATED WITH CLEVELAND With the Pittsburgh Branch now operating as a unit of the Cleveland Branch, the name National Lead Co. of Pennsylvania will no longer be used by Pittsburgh. The words "of Pennsylvania" have been dropped. The office remains at 1376 River Ave., Pittsburgh 12. JOHANSEN CONTINUES AS LINSEED ASS'N. HEAD J. A. Johansen, flaxseed dept, manager, was re-elected president of the Linseed Association at the 80th annual meeting of the organization. This will be Mr. Johansen's tenth consecutive term as president. OBITUARIES Roland P. Prentys, former manager of the Pacific Coast Branch, died at his home in Pebble Beach, Calif, on December 26. He was 66. Mr. Prentys entered the employ of the Company in 1909, shortly after arrival from his homeland, New Zealand. He was appointed manager of Pacific Coast Branch in 1932 and served in that capacity until his retirement January 1, 1943. His widow, Margaret Nesfield Prentys and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Thronton Cooke, survive. Carl L. Koopman, former treasurer of National-Boston Lead Co,., died December 9 at age 79. Mr. Koopman started work with Chadwick-Boston Lead Co., in 1886. He retired from Boston Branch in 1936. Charles E. Senior, Jr., 73, former assistant comptroller of Cleveland Branch died November 20. He retired from active work in July 1938 after having been with the Company 44 years. STEWART ADDRESSES TEMPLE UNIVERSITY GATHERING Alex Stewart, director of research, was the principal speaker at the first anniversary luncheon meeting of the Research Institute of Temple University in Philadelphia, December 16. Mr. Stewart spoke on the relation of the university to industrial research. RENSHAW HONORED BY WEST COAST PAINT GROUP H. B. Renshaw, assistant comptroller of Pacific Coast Branch, was recently elected president of the Puget Sound Paint, Varnish & Lacquer Association of Seattle. He had served previously as vice president.
