Dear Secretary Duffy:
This letter is regarding the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority's (AAATA's) grant applications for $7,220,095 in federal funding for the Ypsilanti Transit Center (YTC) and for $5,282,807 in federal funding for Bus Replacement through the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program.
Under these projects, AAATA will reconstruct the YTC which represents an essential part of the ongoing revitalization of downtown Ypsilanti and will be a cornerstone of both public safety and economic development. AAATA will also replace the oldest buses in their fleet. The modernization of their fleet will enable them to mitigate the strain an aging fleet places on maintenance operations and service reliability, while expanding safe and secure transit service for their community.
AAATA has already taken great strides towards modernizing and stabilizing their service, and they are excited to take the next step in protecting their ltoneg-rm service quality. The proposed projects will allow them to go even further in promoting the safe mobility of the public and fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
I request that AAATA's application is given full and fair consideration consistent with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. I look forward to AAATA's continued success in bringing safe and reliable transit options to the people of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
