1. EPA Vinyl Chloride Standard: Industry efforts to communicate our views take three approaches:
a) Meeting with D. Castle and Shapiro -- postponed to after 11/5/77.
b) Talking to key legislators on the EPA oversight committee. G. Bais and R. Buehler are coordinating this effort.
c) BFG (W. C. Holbrook, W. C. Becker, G. Cohan) -- meeting at Research Triangle, N. C. on 10/14/77 to establish definitions for key items, such as new resins.
2. Skevin Bill -- S 3035 was released from committee "without recommendation." We plan to have Bob Webber write a letter to Senator Zane (drafted by PR and Fran Voke) that describes the BFG position. Our testimony and that of Dr. Demopoulos will be included.
3. Bayport update -- R. Savage, N. Grove, and J. Carons are representing
BFG at activites associated with the local "Salute to Industry." We
will be trying a one on one approach initially, as opposed to a group
meeting.

4. EnvirottWntsl Cflrtttt Projects -- The number of emergency releases of
vinyl d|^i|HE||^ &tt heen greater than expected,or desired. The importance
of goodhj|viraiaBNatal control will be stressed to employees, as opposed to "getlltejg the pounds out."
The Grumman resource recovery project at Louisville is being evaluated by BFG as a steam supply source.
5. Toxicity -- Bob Hinderer is taking an active interest in BFGCD labels. We will invite him to CPSC, as appropriate, for updates on TOSCA and toxicity.

6. Michigan Critical Materials List -- Some of our Michigan customers have asked us to let them know how much, if any, of particular chemicals, which are on the Michigan List, may be our product ingredients. Tucker Peterson is assessing our proper response. (Michigan Critical Materials List is attached.)
7. Barry Commoner's NY Times article -- The Plastic Peril article will be responded to, in some fashion. Possible approaches include: wider distribution of Chemical Week (10/5/77) rebuttal, a Charles Chastain rebuttal, or a Drucker/Kahn article on life before plastics.
8. PVC Siding -- The conflict between PVC siding and polystyrene insulation marketing efforts is being studied for resolution within SPI. Additional (PVC siding) testing by South West Research Institute is a possibility.
9. Addison School Fire -- Dan Kent has been in contact with Fire Chief Barry on this recent fire. We have analyzed stage curtain samples for PVC, and found it present. Dan will meet with Chief Barry to discuss these results and the possibility of a firefighter education program.
