This is potentially a turf issue; State Dept may not want him to meet people outside his environmental jurisdiction which would be a mistake. I know that the FM would like to have a meeting. FYI. Matthew "The purpose of the meeting with the Foreign Minister is to engage in an open dialogue on issues that impact US and Australian relations. Environmental and energy issues are important areas for discussion and impact investment - innovation, deregulation and the appropriate balance between federal and state processes. Also, gas, fracking and overall environmental cooperation are important topics of mutual concern. Given the importance of the bilateral relationship, this is an opportunity to directly engage seniors Australian officials such as the Foreign Minister, that will allow an on-going discussion on issues where both parties can learn from past experiences. The Trump Administration strongly supports and values the current partnership between the two countries, and an initial discussion will allow additional exchanges in the future, and contribute in the future to overall AUSMIN goals and objectives. The Foreign Minister and other senior officials have already met with key members of the Trump Cabinet, including The President, Vice President Pence, Secretary Tillerson and others. This is an opportunity to introduce the EPA Administrator to the Foreign Minister, and other senior Cabinet officials in Australia and to build a personal relationship."
