Explanatory Consent January 16, 1929* DOMESTIC PIG-LEAD BALES REPORT TO TBS MEMBERS OF TBS LEAD INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION: As its name implies, the appended. Domestic Pig-Lead Bales Report, which is the first to he issued -weekly by the Lead Industries Association, is a statistical record of the quantity of domestic pig-lead marketed by reporting aeabers from week to week in the United States. The report gives the distribution of weekly sales by the months in which the piglead sold is to be shipped, and, in order to give a background to the record, the report begins September 1, 1928. Bo tfct members, and others interested, will understand the basis upon which the statistics haws been reported and collected, the following explanation is given* 1. Grades: Desilverized, corroding, soft Missouri, chemical and antioonial lead, grouped together. 2. Period Covered: Sales made during the calendar week for shipment during the current or three following months. S. Sales Between Reporting Members: Sales between reporting members which are not intended for consumption have not been included. ' 4. Inter-ccnpany Business: Two reporting companies' which produce a fraction of their lead re quirements at their own smelters have reported weekly lead shipments from smelter to factory as sales. 8. Deferred Shlrajyts: Inasmuch as a deferred ship ment is a natter for adjustment between buyer and seller and does not involve any disturbance to the amount of lead ear-marked for consump tion, no recognition has been given in theso reports to deferred shipments. 8. Cancellations: A cancellation makes available for the market a tonnage of lead equivalent to the tonnage oaheelled. Therefore, whenever this condition haa arisen an adjustment has been made in the sales report for the week in which the cancellation occurred. T. Average-price Contracts; A peculiarity Of the lead market ia that many sales are based upon average prices as reported by various agencies ^ -.if*{&> ; I X*&& Industries Ass fn LIA21544 'i over an agreed period. In order to reflect these important transactions in our report, Binimum tonnages upecified by consumers on uv^xngo price contracts hare been reported as far ahead as the fora of the report permits. Average price buBinees over and above the ainiaun specifications have been reported as cf the week during which the additional speci fication was received and accepted by the eeller. One result of reporting average price bueinoBe has been to swell the sales reported in the first week of any month (or first re port period of any month), for shipment in the third month following.
