The inlet side of the strainer is marked "DP, Sufficient space should be left around the strainer for access to inspection holes and piping. Sufficient headroom should also be available for lifting out the rotating cone and main shaft. A valved by-pass should be provided around the strainer in order to shut down the machine for inspection (see Bulletins 0li.2 and 5>Oij..3). The drop in pressure between the inlet and outlet of the strainer should be fairly constant (as indicated on the gauges). A constant low differential pressure across the machine indicates proper backwashing. Normal differential pressure is about two (2) to three (3) pounds per square inch.
