Today, the Department has a staff of 50 in a facility that includes a treatment room, emergency room. X-ray facility, clinical laboratory, occupational rehabilitation, and respirator fit. Our department is exceptional for the quality and depth of services we provide, as well as for its longevity," said Dr. T.E. Lipps, Department director. "We have grown steadily over the years due to the dedication and enthusiasm of a fine group of people, beginning the day the doors were opened in 1938." SEZSiOOiS In 1987, the Department was the first such to receive a three-year accred itation from the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. The Department was again recognized for achievement in 1988, when it received the General Manager's Quality Performance Award for continuous improvement in quality performance. Initially, services included only emergency and routine first-aid treatment. Later, periodic physical examinations, extensive X-ray diagnostic testing, and an innovative hearing program were added. Over the years, additional services became a regular part of the Department's activities. These included health education programs, and a voluntary health surveillance program. Recently an Ergonomics Team was formed to routinely evaluate the need for re-design of equipment to improve worker comfort, safety, and productivity. "We've come a long way during the past 50 years, and we're ready for the challenges that face us in the next 50," Dr. Lipps added.
